David A. Banks is a writer and researcher currently working on a book with University of California Press about how cities in the New York Capital Region are enticed to act like social media influencers to attract capital and new residents.

His work has appeared in Real Life, The Baffler, Protean, Strikewave, e-flux architecture, The Guardian, Current Affairs, Commune, The New Inquiry, Tikkun Magazine, and McSweeney's. He is also co-host of the Ironweeds podcast.

He is currently a Lecturer in the Geography and Planning department at University at Albany, SUNY and director of the Globalization Studies program. He is also a proud delegate to the Troy Area Labor Council, and the officer for contingent faculty for the Albany chapter of United University Professions (UUP).

Past and intermittent work includes acting as co-chair of Theorizing the Web, Associate Research Advisor at the Social Science Research Council and an NSF GK12 Fellow. He also does some free-lance research consulting.

David holds a PhD in Science and Technology Studies from Rensselaer Polytechnic institute and a B.A. in Urban Studies from New College of Florida.
